WUPPERTAL TRAILS

The Wuppertal Town Square project was initiated by the National Department of Tourism as part of their Extended Public Works Programme to create local work opportunities and alleviate the situation of poverty-stricken families of the Wuppertal region.

Wuppertal was founded in 1830 as a Rhenish Mission Station that was subsequently transferred to the Moravian Church. The concept development was guided by the vernacular architecture of the region with its characteristic whitewashed thatched cottages and its rich cultural and historical background.
